The silk produced in Mysore reflects the traditional magnificence through its rich yet delicate designs, making Mysore rich for its Royal heritage and Grandeur. 

Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited (KSIC) is the proud inheritor of this royal legacy, has treasured it for over seven decades, and has been producing 100% pure silk with pure gold zari. The Mysore silk and the silk sarees produced by KSIC are luscious, velvety soft, and legendary.

Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the Maharaja of Mysore founded the factory in 1912. They manufactured and supplied silk fabrics to meet the royal family’s requirements and ornamental fabrics to their armed forces. In 1920, a government of Karnataka Industry, KSIC was handed over the factory.

The unit started with just 10 looms and now has over 150 looms. Their products include silk sarees, shirts, kurtas, silk dhoti, and neckties. The authenticity is assured by stamping a unique code number and holograms by KSIC as identification marks on each of its zari sarees.

Having completed more than a century, this factory doubles up as an outlet as well. The commercial production of the widely famous silk was first started in this place along with other places.

It has an astounding variety of silk sarees and scarves and while shopping here, you can also meet the designers and loom workers and watch the entire silk production process. The tour is free and the workers are more than happy to share how the sarees are designed. The factory displays a number of looms and other machines that were used almost a century back in silk and fiber production.

While the costs are often a touch high, this is often definitely the simplest place to shop for silk.
