Witness the Marvel of Buddhist Inscriptions at Kanheri Caves, Mumbai
Kanheri Caves is a group of Buddhist Caves located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. They are rock-cut monuments out of Basalt in the outskirts of the city. They are more than 2000 years old. It consists of Buddhist shrines. The highest cave in the Park is located 460 meters above sea level. From here, you can see the panoramic view of the city. An abode for photographers!
Apart from now being an abode for photographers, it used to be a resting place for many traveling monks about 2000 years ago. Later it turned into a permanent settlement with its own water collection and storage system. The caves are rich with inscriptions and statues of Buddha. It is one of the most amazing ancient rock structure in India!
